4 Tips for Relieving Stress in 2 Minutes or Less!

I am not a big believer in quick fixes in life. Making meaning changes in most areas of life takes hard work, commitment and dedication. However, many (if not most) people hope to find immediate relief when they are struggling in some way, whether it be physically, socially, emotionally, financially, etc. If you are feeling stressed, anxious or overwhelmed, here are 4 tips that all take 2 minutes or less and can be done anytime, anywhere!

I suggest choosing 1-2 practices (whether it be one of these or another that works for you) and committing to incorporating them throughout your day, NOT just when you are feeling emotionally charged or on the verge of panic. The goal is to incorporate these techniques routinely!! (2-3 times a day) when you are feeling calm, at ease and comfortable. This way your mind and body will be more likely to automatically do so (muscle memory) in moments of high stress since it will be a familiar practice.

Breathing exercises of all kinds can be extremely beneficial to regulate the nervous system. The 4-7-8 breathing technique can be especially helpful during times of stress and can also aid in falling asleep or back to sleep when waking up in the middle of the night.

EFT is a simple and painless tapping practice that is used around the world. There is a slight learning curve when first starting out, but once you understand the tapping points, the practice only takes about 60 seconds to complete. This site provides background information as well as a quick YouTube video of the specific tapping points.

The 5 senses grounding exercise is a great for coming back to the “present moment” practice for times when your mind may be going a million miles a minute, or you are experiencing feelings of panic. This site explains the practice as well as provides a free visual, appropriate for all ages!

Simply shifting our thoughts from the what ifs and the to-do lists... to slowing down and practicing gratitude can result in a fresh mindset. Here are 7 gratitude practices to try either on paper or simply in your mind.

5. Bonus- Social Media Detox

Commit to deleting your social media accounts for a period of time. A social media detox can do the mind and body good. Often people scroll mindlessly for many minutes...or hours! If you think you may be “addicted” to social media, you probably are. And a detox can really be freeing. Here are 9 reasons why a social media detox is good for you!
